How can an ADHD diagnosis affect your professional life?

December 4th, 2011
X asked:

I just want to know if this will affect my life in the future - as in: Will it be harder to get a job if my employer asks to see my medical record and notices the ADHD diagnostic? Does it even go into my medical record?

I’m not asking how the ADHD itself will affect my job, so don’t bother answering that question. I just want to know if I will be discriminated against when trying to get employed. And if it would just be better not to go see a psychiatrist.

How long does it take to lose noticeable weight on ADHD medication like Concerta?

November 23rd, 2011
Kitty asked:

I was prescribed Concerta for my ADHD, and it has totally destroyed my apetite. Yesterday I only had half of a 90-calorie granola bar and a salad all day. I’m not starving myself, I just feel a little nauseous if I eat something kind of big or if I’m around too much food and can smell it and stuff. But that’s beside the point, so how long does it take to noticeably lose weight from this kind of medicine?

Why are teachers being allowed to diagnose students with ADD and ADHD?

November 17th, 2011
teebop asked:

My friend who taught for 20 years says that the field of teaching has changed. She said that most of her fellow teachers are stressed and that they are required to persuade parents to have their kids whom they suspect have ADD ADHD or are unable to control to be tested by elementary grade level. She says there is a lot of pressure on them from administrators to catch the early signs or else it will fall on them.

October 23rd, 2011
Frederick asked:

Any info or links would be appreciated. I haven’t done research, I was just wondering if a link exists. Has anyone had ADHD and restricted their gluten? I have recently heard that many kids with autism are sensitive to gluten. Thanks.

Is it illegal to refuse medication as treatment for an adhd child in Washington st or would you be unfit?

October 23rd, 2011
Janice asked:

My husband has a ten yr old son that we had temporary physical custody of for a year and four months. Nothing has ever went through the courts. During this time my husband took his son off ADHD medication and kept him enrolled in counseling. We saw no improvement in his behavior on the medication. The mother is now saying that he is unfit and the child should live with the grandparents because of this. Does this meet the criteria of an unfit parent if the illness is not life threatening?
They have a previous therapist from when he was on medication that has written a letter stating that when he is off medication his behavior deteriorates but it didn’t while he was living with us. He was actually doing better in school and we have school grade records to prove this.
