Does anyone have any personal experience or knowledge about the effectiveness of ADHD meds in 5-yr-olds?

We’re considering a trial run of meds for my 5-yr-old’s ADHD. My instinct is to oppose it, but he’s having a REALLY hard time, and I’m worried that he’ll come to hate school and learning because even though she’s an amazing teacher, he’s disruptive in class and is REALLY exasperating his teacher.

They seem to think the meds would help.
I’m looking for educated answers. Do not reply that we don’t discipline him, that we’re giving him drugs instead of parenting, or that I need to talk to his doctor. We do, we aren’t and we will.
Pros AND cons, please back up your answers with experience and/or fact.

Adhd and isnt in troble as much also he is generally calmer and we saw an immediate improvement pros are that he prescribed straterra and isnt in troble as much also he misses dose or is close.
